Hierarchy of needs

Hello F & D Family,

This is the first blog (clearly), and I am happy to see you all here. Essentially, we hope to create a platform here for thought, reflection, and growth for everyone. Currently we are all experiencing times that are unprecedented but sadly not new. There is no doubt that COVID 19 regardless of the strain is here to stay...

There is mixed reaction to the lockdown experience, for some it’s a breeze and others a struggle.

It is also a time for reflection.

Viktor E. Frankl, Holocaust survivor wrote

“Everything can be taken by a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms-to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

Right now, we are all going to be missing our self-fulfillment needs, possibly our physiological needs and sadly you will be seeing people unable to access their basic needs. I have left an example below..

  • Self-actualisation:
    • This is realising one’s full potential, and this will differ from person to person. This is the highest level on the hierarchy and what we are all striving for.
  • Esteem needs:
    • We all desire to have respect and be respected by others, this includes self-esteem, confidence, and a sense of self achievement.
  • Social needs:
    • We all look for social connections in friends and family.
  • Safety needs:

We all need to feel safe. Whether that be physically, financially or job security and health

  • Physiological needs:
    • These are the underlying needs we as humans can’t live without. E.g., Food, water, sleep, oxygen etc.

There is no doubt that everyone’s needs are different, however occasionally we need to ask ourselves have my needs changed? Or does our/my foundation need reinforcing? Occasionally when we are languishing in our self-fulfillment, we should hit pause and pop back down to see if the foundation we built at the start is still stable. When you do this it’s not a sign of failure it is self-care and being responsible. There is huge reward in being mindful and grateful.

In the next few blogs, we are going to have a few people drop down deep on meeting your needs from basic to self-fulfillment.

It has been a big week for the Fox & Dew family, so we will sign off for now. In the meantime, if you think of anything you would like to discuss, drop us a line by DM or email
